Back to Hard Surface. The same guy with the last couple of tutorials ( Josh Gambrell ) runs a Blender training group ( Blender Bros )
They offered a free modelling course for a “Sci-Fi Terminal”. I signed up for that and modelled the terminal.
I made some design choices different from the tutorial, I wanted to go with some sort of holographic display rather than modelling an actual screen and I altered the dimensions some to fit what I wanted more than the tutorial.
However, I ran into the fact that materials are quite complicated in Blender. There is a reason that most of the courses focus on easy colors and simple materials.
I actually have a course I purchased on Udemy to run through how to do materials and textures and I also need to spend some on decals, which are modelling details that can be made separately and then applied to the surface.
The end result is the “screen” of this terminal looks messed up, because it is, and I am not going to fix it until some time in the future when I learn more about materials and texturing. Also, construction wise, I screwed up a few other pieces and more detail is needed on some of the panels. I will be returning to this piece and either correcting or redoing the piece because I would like to improve it to use as a set piece in some other renders.
